First Steps

My heart was beating a little faster than normal, sitting on the train, that morning of 23rd August 2016.

I was excited and had a sense of anticipation heading off to an event, not really knowing what to expect. As I sat on the train, my mind drifted back to when I was in Year 9 at school. I had just delivered a speech to the school assembly. There was an overwhelming sense of ‘this is what I want to do’. To be a woman of influence, to make a difference in other people’s lives, to be a voice for those that have no voice.

It had taken me nearly 40 years to reignite that dream and to consciously start to find a way to make it happen. I had no idea who JT Foxx was. After spending some time searching on the internet for speaking opportunities, an ad appeared on my Facebook feed to an event for aspiring women speakers. It was free, in Melbourne, so the only sacrifice was my time and a day off work.

By the end of the day, I was exhausted. It was close to 6pm and my brain was buzzing with all the new knowledge that I had received: how to go about branding, marketing, the importance of coaching, tips on speaking for 90 minutes or 3 hours and how to complete an excellent presentation. The content that JT Foxx and his coaches delivered that day, was exceptional. I would definitely be making an effort to take part in more events.
